Acoustic Ceiling & Sound Insulation Design for Event Marquees
Nothing spoils an expensive wedding banquet faster than unintelligible, echoing microphone speeches and deafening musical sound reflections bouncing off hard metal walls. Acoustic engineering is not an afterthought: it is a precise science of decibel absorption, vibration isolation, and reverberation control. Here is how Fusion Developers designs studio-grade acoustics inside large-span steel marquees.
Targeting Reverberation Time: The RT60 Target
Reverberation time (RT60) is the time required for sound pressure to drop by 60 decibels after the sound source stops. An untreated cavernous steel hall has an unacceptable RT60 of 3.5 to 5.0 seconds (creating massive mud and echo). Fusion Developers designs multi-layer ceiling assemblies that bring the RT60 down to 0.9 – 1.2 seconds, ensuring pristine speech intelligibility.
The 3-Tier Acoustic Ceiling Assembly
- Sub-Deck Absorption: 100mm high-density Rockwool insulation (64 kg/m³) pinned directly under the metal roof deck, damping thermal radiation and heavy rainfall impact noise.
- Suspended Acoustic Plenum: A 3-foot air cavity above false ceilings functioning as a giant bass trap.
- Micro-Perforated Finished Ceiling: Acoustic gypsum boards with sound-absorbing fleece backing or timber acoustic slats, providing decorative elegance while allowing sound waves to enter and dissipate.
